Trend Micro Review

Japanese security powerhouse Trend Micro was first founded in 1988 in Los Angeles, before relocating to China and then finally to their current headquarters in Tokyo.  In its infancy, Trend Micro was tied to the Intel brand but soon branched off alone to become one of the leading security software developers in Asia, Europe and worldwide.  With more than 5,000 employees and sales across all continents, Trend Micro is an outside contender for the larger American and European firms that dominate the antivirus industry.  With an aggressive acquisition scheme, Trend Micro have been buying competing smaller companies at a rate of more than one per year since 2005 and  continue to grow as a brand.

Kaspersky Review

Kaspersky Lab is a prestigious Russian software house who has been writing computer products since 1997.  Based in Moscow but with headquarters in 30 regions around the globe, Kaspersky currently sells to almost 200 countries and service over 300 million users worldwide.  Frequently rated as one of the best providers of antivirus products, Kaspersky’s engine is used by many other security products including FrontBridge and Clearswift and the company also has partnerships with conglomerates such as Samsung.  Having been around for a long time and showing no signs of letting up yet, Kaspersky is certainly one of the best brands on the market for antivirus software.

Norton Review

Norton Antivirus is one of the most successful and longstanding products for PC protection.  Developed by security powerhouse Symantec, Norton has been around for more than 20 years; having first appeared in 1991.  Home computers were a rarity when Norton was first released, so it quickly became the most well-known antivirus software when the public began to purchase their own PCs.  Widely recognized as one of the most reliable and least resource-hungry brands, Norton has become synonymous with security and grows in popularity every year.  Symantec’s products are found internationally and with more than 20,000 employees; they’re certainly achieving a grip on the market that puts them at the top of many ratings and benchmark charts.

AVG Review

Originally known as Grisoft, AVG are a Czech software company best known for their free antivirus product; AVG AntiVirus Free. First launched in 1992, AVG (Anti-Virus Guard) remained in Czechoslovakia until 1997 when it became popular throughout Europe and moved to the US in 1998. By 2006, the company had grown immensely and expanded to encompass a number of different packages including anti-spyware.

eScan Review

eScan offers solid protection from a number of computer threats including viruses, rootkits, spyware, and other malware. The software is effective at not only detecting and removing existing threats, but also protecting your system from new threats. Interestingly enough, this is one of the few systems that have actually gone to the trouble of developing their own firewall; most programs which claim to have this actually are relying on the ‘stock’ windows firewall, which may be potentially ineffective. It even detects malware that is spread through email by scanning all incoming and outgoing files.

F-Prot Review

F-Prot anti-virus software has been around since at least 1999, making it a long-time player in an ever-crowded field. They have continuously achieved the coveted 100% rating from the independent Virus Bulletin agency. The company offers a single product (although in several versions, depending on your computer system) for home users, as well more advanced business use anti-virus software programs. Both are rather easy to use, download and install fast and offer multiple PC licenses standard. This software could be a nice option, especially for those using the Internet Explorer browser.

Norman offers a number of different anti-virus software packages to help protect users against all forms of malware. This includes spyware, worms, Trojans, and even rootkits. They offer tons of features and even their most basic version is good for three computers. Another interesting thing is that this is a truly global company with offices in at least 11 different countries (including the USA).
